Less Bureaucracy Ask any beta-tester of any version of DRAW what the most frustrating aspect of beta-testing has been, and the answer will be: Reporting bugs or making suggestions that do not get incorporated into the final product. For those who have never been involved in the testing of pre-release software, its all done in cyberspace, in Corels case, in a private little room on CompuServe. Testers report bugs and discuss various issues about the evolving new release, and administrators take the reports and send them to the product managers who in turn take them up with the engineers.
With this version, the most prominent Corel representative in the beta-testing forum was Leah Hayman, the Product Manager herself. If we suggest that, say, the new collection of viewing options (Simple Wireframe, Wireframe, Draft, Normal, and Enhanced) comes at the expense of the friendly Shift+F9 toggle, she is the one who would respond. It is she who would suggest solutions, hear our criticisms, respond to them, and ultimately take the issue up directly with the engineers. It empowers all of us, and makes the process much more effective. |
