Who Says Macros are Only For the Advanced?

The first time I became aware of this was at one of our CorelDRAW seminars. I asked for a show of hands as to how many in the audience had ever written a macro or a script in any application. Very few hands went up, except for a few who had written Word and Excel macros.

"Why not?" I wanted to know of everyone in general and no one in particular.

"Our MIS guy does all of that stuff for us," answered one gentleman.

"What stuff?" I asked.

"All of that advanced stuff."

All of that advanced stuff?? I chalked it up to an anomaly of the city I was in, and continued my presentation of DRAW 7's new script recording tool. But before long, I found further evidence that I had made a grave miscalculation. A hand went upyes, you in the purple blowse.

"These script things that you're making can you give them to us on diskette?"

"Yes," I answered, "but the idea behind this seminar is for you to learn to create them yourself, choosing the tasks that you find yourself performing often."

"Maybe you can. I can't."

"I'll bet you could if you tried."

"But that's just it I don't think I'll ever try. It's way too advanced for me."
