- APS Image Database This site provides access to images of stars and galaxies from Automated Plate Scanner (APS) digitized first-epoch National Geographic-Palomar Observatory Sky Survey (POSS I) plates, both the red (E) and blue (O)
plates.
- Astronomy Picture of the Day Each day a different image or photograph of the universe is featured, along with a brief explanation written by a professional astronomer.
- Clementine Lunar Image Browser This interface allows you to view an image of the moon, centered on whatever point you indicate by clicking on the image below. In addition you may select from a variety of resolutions and image sizes. You may also retrieve a copy of the actual data returned by the satellite.
- CNES : CLEMENTINE data Server The CLEMENTINE Spacecraft, was launched on January the 25 1994, and performed in 71 days the first multi-spectral systematic mapping of the moon.
- Comet P/Shoemaker-Levy 9 Impact Home Page This Web site provides
some of the images taken by amateur and professional astronomers before, during, and after the events, and to provide more information on this historic event.
- David Hanon's Astronomical CCD Imaging Page is presented for the purpose of displaying recent Astro-images taken with a 7" f/9 refractor and ccd camera.
- Declassified Satellite Photographs consists of approximately 880,000 photographic images that were taken between 1959 and 1972. These images were primarily collected by the CORONA satellite series, but the dataset also includes photos taken from the ARGON and LANYARD satellites. The images have multiple scales and the image quality can be variable. Cloud cover is common. The digital products are produced from a duplicate negative source. The original film and technical mission-related documents are maintained by the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA).
- Digitized Sky Survey The Digitized Sky Surveys were produced at the Space Telescope Science Institute under U.S. Government grant NAG W-2166. The images of these surveys are based on photographic data obtained using the Oschin Schmidt Telescope on Palomar Mountain and the UK Schmidt Telescope. The plates were processed into the present compressed digital form with the permission of these institutions.
- Galaxy Catalog A collection of images of 113 nearby galaxies assembled at the Department of Astrophysics, Princeton University. All are large, bright and well resolved. Observations with CCDs are form Palomar Observatory (31galaxies) and from Lowell Observatory (82 galaxies).
- Jpeg's from GOES-8 satellite An ftp directory of jpg's. But you'll have to sift through.
- MSSS Viking Image Archive This page provides access to a large fraction of the set of images taken by the Viking orbiters from 1976 to 1980.
- NASA's Observatorium is a public access site for Earth and space data. You'll find pictures of the Earth, planets, stars, and other cool stuff, as well as the stories behind those images.
- NASA Photo Gallery is an attempt to bring all of NASA's still images to one location. These links are included with more generally accessible archives to more accurately present the broad range of NASA's research programs.
- NSSDC Photo Gallery The NSSDC Photo Gallery is intended to fulfill two different purposes. The first of these is to provide access to some of the more popular images. NSSDC fills hundreds of requests per year for thousands of photographs, but many of the same images are requested time and again. Many (if not most) of these are provided in the Photo Gallery.
- NSSDC Photo Gallery: Mars Images were taken by the Viking 1 and 2 orbiters. They are among the most requested images which NSSDC archives. These images were taken of the region on Mars known as Cydonia Mensae and contain the feature commonly known as the "face".
- Space Image Library [okstate.edu] A variety of sources for space-related images, presented by NASA's Aerospace Education Services Program.
- Space Link Paradise
Yep, it's the best! Well, it's not just images, but all kinds of space links.
- STScI/HST Public Release Images Hubble Space Telescope Public pictures. Images are digital versions of pictures also distributed publicly as press releases.
- Swedish University Network has lots to offer.
- Web Nebulae If you look up at the night sky with your naked eye all you see is a black void with a few points of white light. But with a camera and a telescope an entirely different view unfolds in brilliant color and amazing detail. The pages at this site introduce a few of these spectacular objects.
